| Come read to Lily or Dallas! |
|
 |
Do you know a child
in grades K-4 who has trouble reading, or is a reluctant reader? Help comes
to the Carteret County Public Library in Beaufort in the form of
four-footed, cold-nosed tail-waggers named Lily and Dallas. |
|
Both golden retrievers are R.E.A.D.
registered therapy dogs (Reading Education Assistance Dogs), and come
accompanied by their handler and facilitator Pat Rapaport of Beaufort. |

“Tales and Tails" |
|
The R.E.A.D. program improves children’s
reading skills and interests by using a powerful method: reading to a dog,
but not just any dog. R.E.A.D. uses registered therapy animals that have
been trained and tested for health, safety, appropriate skills and
temperament.
Lily and Dallas are already well known at Beaufort Elementary School where
they prove to be great listeners and motivators for young readers.
To register a child for this R.E.A.D. program at the library please
call 728-2050. A parent or legal guardian must complete a Permission
form before the child can participate. |
