Alice T. Vitale Collection

Alice T. Vitale and her husband moved to Beaufort from New York in June 1979. In 1997 at the age of 87 she released her first book Leaves: In Myth, Magic & Medicine based on research at the Carteret County Public Library. Now out of print, Leaves features authentic leaf prints created by Mrs. Vitale’s own secret method. After her death in March 2001 family members and friends made donations to the Carteret County Public Library. Many wonderful plant and gardening books were purchased with these memorial funds and are on display in the library during April. In her memory the Carteret County Public Library started a lecture series about plants and gardening.
