| Why is it
that when you want something to wear out it won’t? For example the
fifty-five “youth” chairs used in the library auditorium are over
twenty-five years old. Made of hard plastic they resist aging and appear
virtually indestructible. What the seats lack in charm they make up in
cruelty to limbs and joints of the unsuspecting attending library lectures,
discussions, and programs. |

“Let’s Talk About It!” participants are especially familiar with the
unforgiving scaffolds, spending ninety grueling minutes on them each
session. Series evaluations routinely give them “unsatisfactory” votes, and
quiet moans ask for alternatives. |
| Relief is
on the way! The Friends of Carteret County Public Library have launched a
fund raising program to purchase 45 durable yet comfortable American Seating
Action Stacker chairs, with fine fabric and welcome arm supports. Several
storage dollies will allow them to be nestled and easily wheeled away when
needed. The chairs are made in the USA and are available on State Contract
through Institutional Interiors, Inc. The Executive Board of the Friends of
the Carteret County Library initiated the campaign with $500.00 a great
start towards the goal of $6,400.00. |
