Art @ the Library

The Gallery Wall at the Carteret County Public Library in Beaufort will feature a new series of paintings by Sally Anger called, The Pale Blue Dot. The Pale Blue Dot show is inspired by Carl Sagan’s description of the earth as seen from the Voyager 1 space probe from 3.7 billion miles away, just as it was about to leave our Solar System. In it the Earth’s apparent size is less than a pixel, our planet appears as a tiny dot against the vastness of space.
Beaufort artist Sally Anger, known for her large paintings of faces, was inspired by this concept to create a series of paintings inspired by our planet. Some of the canvases are round, and have abstracted images of the earth. Others are inspired by the concept of “flow” – the flowing of water, of colors, of ideas, of emotions, of the planets through space and ultimately the flow of life through time. Sally Anger grew up in the coastal town of Beaufort, NC. She left her career as a nutritionist in 2003 to follow her lifelong dream of art and has never looked back. Her work will be on display at the Carteret County library for the month of October, 2017. For more information about the artist, find Sally Anger Artworks @ www.sallyanger.com "What was any art but a mould in which to imprison for a moment the shining elusive element which is life itself - life hurrying past us and running away, too strong to stop, too sweet to lose." ~Willa Cather

The Showcase will feature Melissa Bennett, a writer, artist, and indie filmmaker hailing from Carteret County, North Carolina. Melissa has been creating all kinds of 3D art since high school, but she most recently fell in love with the art of book folding and 3D paper crafts, mainly because she’s an avid book lover and a big fan of origami. She loves recycling old books and turning them into works of art. She also finds the process relaxing and sees it as a form of meditation.
