Library Places in Ready to Read Contest

What’s better than books? Winning a contest for Free Books! Thanks to Children’s Librarian Susan Gallop the Carteret County Public Library is receiving 50 Ready to Read titles free from publisher Simon & Schuster Children’s Books.
The contest asked librarians to email an entry about their favorite books and why. Gallop chose the Hero Dog series with books like Sadie : the dog who finds the evidence by Thea Feldman “…because it depicts dogs and community helpers in a way that is less frightening and more interesting than other non-fiction community helper books.”
The Ready to Read collection encourages readers of all levels with a wide array of characters and subjects. Four levels of reading materials are colorful, beginning with a Pre-level for shared reading and simple words to Level 3 with larger, more complex story plots, character development, challenging vocabulary and more difficult sentence structure.
Some of the titles Ms. Gallop won for the library include:
Oliva and the Pet Project by Kate Boutilier, new Eric Carle adventures like The Greedy Python & A House for Hermit Crabs, Adventures of Otto by David Milgrim, new tales of Eloise by Kay Thompson, and Henry and Mudge adventures by Cythia Rylant. New non-fiction titles that cover science, history, famous Americans, and books on other countries were also included.
