Accessing Worldcat, the Library Catalog |
|
http://cpclib.worldcat.org
|
| |
|
Log in to your account using the following: |
|
Username = your entire library
card barcode |
|
Password =
New library card holders should create your own password
and established users should use your last name in all CAPITAL letters |
| |
|
 |
| |
|
The library catalog is available for users to look up titles, authors, and subjects. The
catalog will show which library owns an item, whether or not it is currently
checked-out, and its shelf location in the library. |
|
Users are also able to check their library accounts to view the items they
have checked-out, renew items, view and make new requests, and see
current overdue fines. |
|
The Worldcat library catalog is connected to library collections from around the
world. Specify Craven-Pamlico-Carteret Regional Library when searching to
show only the items that are available in our ten-member library region.
|
| |
|
| |
| Trouble logging into your
account? |
 | Ensure that you are using your entire 10 or 14
digit library card number as your username. |
|
 | If you are unable to log-in using your last name
in all capital letters as your password, you may need to create your own
password. Do this by clicking on the Set/reset password link on
the sign-in page or by clicking here.
You will receive an email from "Library Password Management" (DoNotReply@oclc.org) giving you instructions on resetting your password
within a 24-hour period.
You must have provided the library with a valid email address to do this.

|
 | Contact CPC Technology Coordinator Vanessa Mullis
at vmullis@cpclib.org or
252-638-7814 if you are still unable to access your
account. |
|
 | Some users have found it useful to try accessing the catalog in different
Internet browsers
such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. |
|
| |
| Special note to Chrome
users: |
|
Some users have reported that they
may need to click the "load anyway" option to log-into their account and/or
request items. To do this, click the gray shield icon at the top right of
the browser window and choose "Load anyway." |
| |
| Special note to
Safari/Mac users: |
|
Some users have reported that they are unable to access parts of the
Worldcat library catalog using Safari. Users may wish to download another
Internet browser such as Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. |
| |
| Special note to patrons
who request items: |
| Add this
email address to your contacts: no-reply@oclc.org |
| Patrons
who request items and who have provided the library with their email address will receive notifications via email when items are ready
to be picked up. To ensure that you receive these emails, add no-reply@oclc.org to
your email contacts list. That way, these emails will get into your inbox
and not your spam folder. |
| |
| How to find items: |
|
First, limit your search results to those items available in the
Craven-Pamlico-Carteret Regional System instead of the Libraries
Worldwide option. You may also limit the search to a specific library
branch location. |
| |
 |
|
|
Enter any keyword, title,
author or subject in the search box. The image below shows a sample search. Need the audiobook or film version of a title? Use the options at the left of the
screen to narrow down formats. |
|
Tips for better search results: Verify the correct spellings of
authors and titles. Use authors and titles in one search string. Use the
"Sort by" drop-down box to sort results by publication date to view the
newest titles. |
| |
 |
|
|
Clicking on the blue, underlined title will show more information about
the item such as which libraries own the item, if it is checked in or
out, and the shelf location of the item. |
| |
 |
|
| |
|
|
|
How to request an item: |
|
Once you find an item you would like to request, click the blue Place
Hold button as shown in the image below. You will then be prompted to
enter your user name and password. Choose your preferred pickup location
on the next screen and click Submit. You will receive a message that
your hold has been placed. If there is a waiting list for a title, you
will also be informed of your queue position. Click close to leave the
hold screen. |
|
Click the CPC Library Account link at the top right of the screen to
view your list of requested materials. |
| |
 |
|
| |
|
How to renew an item: |
|
Sign in to your account as described at the top of this page. At the top
right of the screen, click on the blue, underlined CPC Library
Account link. There are three tabs associated with your account;
Checkouts, Holds, and Charges. Your currently checked-out items are
listed in order of upcoming due date. |
|
Click the Renew button to the right of an item as illustrated in
the image below. A notice should appear shortly with the new due date of
the item. |
| |
 |
|
| Why didn't my item
renew?: |
|
Items that are already overdue must be renewed by phone or in person. |
|
Existing overdue fines may block renewals, try renewing by phone or in
person. |
|
Items that have waiting lists cannot be renewed. |
|
Fiction films cannot be renewed. |
