In February, the library will feature a “couple's”
show: the beautiful pastel and oil paintings of Norma Haden in the Art
Gallery and the hand-carved wooden decoys of her husband Will in the
display cases. Norma started using watercolors now prefers pastel and
oil. While she enjoys landscapes, seascapes, an occasional human portrait,
and plein aire, her forte lies in the painting of animal
portraits. While still carving whole decoys, Will is now making custom
canes and hiking sticks. |

In February, the featured artist is
Maureen Schwartz. Back in the sixties, Schwartz started painting. She
entered one of my paintings at an art exhibit at the Virginia Museum of
Fine Arts and won a blue ribbon. After retiring and moving here to
Emerald Isle, she looked forward to giving painting another try. Recently,
she has painted a series of whimsical note cards of cats and dogs with
accompanying stories of their life at the Crystal Coast. They are for sale
in many shops locally. |
