Emerald Isle Baptist Church

A dramatic portrayal by

William and Sue Wills

touring 27 states coast to coast. Tickets, $10, at Western Carteret Library and Emerald Isle Books

Presidents and Their First Ladies, dramatically speaking is the creation of the veteran acting and writing team of husband and wife, William and Sue Wills. This unique series of dramatically read dialogues delves into the personal relationships of 31 of our First Couples. For eight years they have been touring the country making nearly 300 presentations every year. One patron observed that Congress should declare them “a living national monument!”.

Mr. and Mrs. Wills have performed at seven of the nation’s Presidential Library/Museum Sites; had two programs featured on C-Span television’s American Presidents Series and have appeared on Celebrity and Princess cruise ships. They are a true working team with William researching and creating the scripts while Sue edits his work and creates the costumes, many of her own design.

With their Presidents and First Ladies program, William and Sue hope that by presenting the personal side of our first couples, they will become more than just names read about in history books.

For Sunday's performance, you will be witnessing a Presidential News Conference with our President and First Lady from 1961 - 1963. Jack Kennedy may have been the President who, except for wartime Presidents, had the most crises one after another--in his Presidency, his marriage, and his own health. That he was able to project such an image of hope with all these troubles is part of the Kennedy legacy. Jack and Jackie's relationship changed during the Presidency, as did Jackie's approach to being First Lady. The Kennedys may have been reaching the apex of their personal relationship when an assassin ended it all in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963.
