Library moves to larger facility |
|
|
|
In mid-2009 the Carteret County
Public Library will move operations from Turner Street to space in Beaufort
Square Shopping Center, 1702 Highway 70 East, Beaufort. |
|
The new library will feature:
· Almost
13,000 square feet
· Improved
accessibility and convenient parking.
· Space
for more books in all departments and formats.
· More
computers for adults and children.
· A
special corner for teens.
· A
conference room.
· A
large program room with comfortable seating.
· An
outdoor dropbox for audiovisual materials. |

A Friends of the Library Capital
Campaign |

It has been
38 years since the Friends of Carteret County Public Library conducted a
capital campaign to benefit the Carteret County Public Library in Beaufort.
Since then, the library has grown in usage, materials, and, of course,
technology. Today, operations exceed space at the current location. In 2008,
County officials identified and secured a larger facility. The Friends of
the Library are working now to raise funds to furnish the new library. |

SHELVING:
All of the shelving and furniture purchased in 1971
will be moved to the new library.
High Point Public Library and Pamlico County Library are donating extra
shelving.
Additional shelving will be needed in all departments. |

COMPUTERS:
An Opportunity Online Hardware grant through the Bill &
Melinda Gates Foundation will provide several new computers for public
use. Five additional computers are needed in the children’s area;
funding for 2 has been received.
Computer carrels and chairs are also needed. This includes 2 child
height and 3 youth height carrels. |

REFURBISH PROJECT:
***UPDATE***
Partial
funding to refurbish the 50 original wood library chairs has been
received through a generous grant from the Carteret Community
Foundation.
