      The The countdown has begun for the Craven-Pamlico-Carteret County
Regional Library System. March 2008 marks the launch of an all-new Region Read, a community effort to read, enjoy and discuss one book.
     The 2008 Region Read takes a new approach by focusing on a nonfiction autobiographical work, Rocket Boys (also released as October Sky) by Homer Hickam, Jr. The book was selected by The New York Times as one of its “Great Books of 1998.”

Our Region Reads
 
     Hickam is a retired NASA engineer. His memoir is set in the 1950s and captures the gee-whiz of rocketry, the space program and things that wink in the night sky. The story will inspire readers of all ages. Your regional public libraries have coordinated a series of NASA speakers, exhibits, book discussions and even rocket launches to enhance your reading experience.
